Additional Support for Leigh Poland

Dear Team Poland,

We are reaching out to our wonderful network of friends and family once again as we are in need of support.

In September Leigh's cancer came back. He was selected to participate in a research trial that showed promising potential. Unfortunately, on November 19th Leigh's health took a turn. Mary had to call an ambulance to take him to CHOMP, where he was immediately transferred to UCSF. His tumor had rapidly grown and there was a bleed.

His doctors at UCSF quickly started an aggressive chemo treatment. He has had additional complications, including respiratory flu and a blood clot. In the last two days, a CT scan showed that he has a pulmonary embolism and a consolidation in his lungs that the doctors are trying to identify. We hope to have more answers soon as he was just transferred to a different part of the hospital that will be better equipped to assess these complications with lots of additional testing.

As you might imagine, this is a lot to process. Leigh is tired but remains in good spirits and is grateful to be in excellent hands at UCSF and with Mary and Ashleigh at his side. Both have been staying at a hotel near the hospital since November 20th.

We hope again to offset the hotel expense with any funds generated here. The expense is great, but the hotel's proximity is critical. If you can help ease this burden, we would greatly appreciate it.
