Save Elsie's life
Donación protegida
Hello. My name is Sarah, and the beauty above is Elsie. Elsie is a purebread boxer, whom I've had since I was in elementary school. She is the sweetest dog I've ever known, and the love of my life.
Recently, while Elsie was performing her nightly ritual of begging for dinner scraps, she abruptly fell to the floor. At first I thought she'd been knocked over by the bigger, male dog in the family. But almost immediately, I noticed that she was convulsing. It lasted a full minute, and when the tremors finally stopped, she couldn't get to her feet. When we attempted to stand her up, her legs collapsed right under her again. She gave me the saddest, most frightened look that absolutely broke my heart.
By the next day, she seemed to have recovered, and as we're currently living on my mother's disability pension, we decided not to take her to the vet just yet. This would prove to be a horrendous mistake on our parts, because not only did she have several more seizures in the following week, but her temperment changed, and we noticed that she was drinking a full ice cream bucket of water at least once a day.
We took her to the vet two days ago, and heard back from them today with her results. She has a brain tumor -- a glioma tumor, the vet thinks. He can't be positive of the type of tumor, however, until he does the biopsy.
Here is where I need the help -- and know that I hate asking for it. I come from a very proud family, and we hate asking for assistance from anybody. But as I mentioned previously, my family is in a bad way, financially. I live with my mother and my brother, and all three of us are disabled. My mother has been in and out of the hospital steadily for the past seven years, and my brother and I both have mental and physical disabilities that keep us from working. So all three of us are living off my mom's pension, and that has to cover not only rent, bills, and food, but also all of our medications. We can barely afford to feed Elsie, let alone pay the vet bills. Already, just to have her looked at and an MRI performed, we've already gotten a bill for over five hundred dollars. The vet estimates the proceedure to remove the tumor will cost around fifteen hundred. And if the tumor turns out to be cancerous, treatment is something else entirely. Chemo could be anywhere between eight hundred and two thousand dollars, and that's just for three to six months. Radiation could cost anywhere between two and six thousand dollars.
We can't let Elsie die. She acts as a therapy dog to all three of us, being the one who acts like a lap dog (despite being over sixty pounds) and will snuggle you if you're sad, or upset, or scared. She was born in our house, and her sister and son will miss her more than we will. If we get the two thousand dollars to cover the initial vet visit, and then the surgery, we'll figure out what to do from there. The important thing right now is to get the tumor out. That is the priority.
Please, if you can help my sweet girl, my family will be forever grateful. If all you can spare is a positive thought or a prayer, we'll take those gladly.
Thank you so much for reading.
