Help Brenda Kick Colon Cancer's Butt

Brenda was recently diagnosed with colon cancer during a routine colonoscopy on Wednesday, March 2nd. This is extremely tough news to digest and we are hoping to rally around her with all the support we can give.

 

The type of cancer she has is extremely rare. The pathology came back that the biopsy was squamous cell (similar to skin cancer). To put this into perspective, 99.97% of colon cancer is adenocarcinoma. She falls into that very small .03% of other forms found there. There have only been 142 cases documented since 1946, but her doctors are getting a lot of specialists' opinions on her case for treatment plans. Her team of physicians have never seen this type of cancer in their careers.

 

She has met with her oncologist and they have a curative plan in place. She will finish up her imaging this week and next. Hoping to start chemo and radiation in about a week or two. They are starting with a 5-week chemo and radiation plan. Surgery is an option, but her physicians are starting with this treatment first and surgery as a last resort.

 

Currently, her imaging has shown that it is local. The CT scan also showed that it has not spread to her lungs or liver. Surprisingly, it did not even show it in her colon (hopefully, the cancer was caught extremely early). We are waiting to get the results from an ultrasound and MRI. These results will tell us if there has been any spread to lymph nodes.

 

The money earned from this Gofundme will help to alleviate out-of-pocket expenses and medical bills. We have already run into some difficulties with the insurance company denying testing. With the rarity of this diagnosis, additional testing is needed to specialize her treatment plan. The money will also help Brenda with any alternative therapies to help alleviate pain, discomforts, and stress from cancer treatment. These alternative therapies are proven to be beneficial for cancer patients but are not covered by her insurance.

 

We would love to see Brenda return to her favorite hobbies, spending time with family, motorcycle rides across the country, skiing, and caring for her chickens.
