If you’ve met Zara, you know she’s more than just our dog - she’s our heartbeat. She’s been with us through every chapter, always greeting us with her wagging tail, bright eyes, and a love that fills our home. She’s family, and right now, she needs us more than ever.
Friday, Zara suffered what appears to be another severe flare-up of Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) - a spinal condition that can cause severe pain, loss of mobility, and, in the most serious cases, paralysis. She’s currently at UC Davis Veterinary Hospital, where she’s undergoing urgent tests and care. The doctors have flagged that her condition is serious and has required advanced surgery to give her the best chance of recovery.
The road ahead won’t be easy - there will be hospital stays, medications, and a long rehabilitation process. But here’s the thing: we’re ready. We will do whatever it takes to bring our girl home and give her the best shot at returning to the happy, adventurous, squirrel-stalking pup she’s always been.
Zara has been a source of joy not just for us, but for our friends, family, and everyone lucky enough to meet her. She’s strong, resilient, and has already overcome so much in her life. We believe she can do it again - with the right care and a community behind her.
While we’re committed to covering as much as we can ourselves - and our insurance will help with roughly 20% of the total - the reality is that this will still be a significant financial challenge on top of the emotional one. We’re asking for any help you can give to offset a portion of the costs, which include:
• The cost of her pre-op testing and spinal surgery
• Post-surgery hospitalization
• Medications and pain management
• Physical therapy and rehab to help her regain mobility
Every donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward Zara’s medical care and recovery. Even if you can’t contribute financially, sharing this page or sending a message of support means the world to us.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping us fight for Zara. We know she can get through this - because she’s not just fighting with her own strength, she has all of ours too.
With love and gratitude,
David & Kayla
