Coach Rattray - ALS Relief Fund
Donation protected
This is a story of a Canadian hockey father and coach that sacrificed everything for his 3 (Tanner, Tyson, Caelan) sons. Donald (Sonny) Rattray for 30+ years would spend all his money, time and energy he had left (before and after his long shifts at the mill) driving us around all of BC, parts of Alberta and Washington to all our hockey games.
Most hockey parents know the drill. Early morning practices, weekend tournaments, summer camps etc. Up at 4am in bed at midnight. Only most hockey parents retire from this lunatic schedule when their kids turn 18. Not this crazy cat. Sonny decided he was having hockey withdrawals and went all in again at the tender age of 48 when our youngest brother Caelan Rattray was born. Caelan is 16 now. I guess hockey was just in Coach Rattrays blood.
This isn't just all about being a dad and hockey though. He's a loving grandfather of 3 (Camryn, Chase, Caroline) a brother, son, uncle, best friend you name it. For all of you that have the pleasure of knowing him he's definitely one of a kind. He could walk into a room full of strangers and after 20 minutes you'd think everyone had known each other for 50 years. He's never been one to turn away from a conversation and he has the heart of gold. (Quite the dancer in his prime too)
I'm starting this fundraising campaign because Sonny is the last guy on earth that would ever ask anyone for anything. It's the very least all our family and friends could do for all that Sonny has given us in his lifetime.
The ALS disease is hard enough on him as it is so the additional stress of money needs to be minimal. He's sold his retirement property and is now taking on significant expenses to customize his new ALS accessible home.
Expenses include ramps into the home, a custom toilet and shower, vehicle modifications, medication, a 24/7 caretaker and many other items and services which will enable Sonny to live well with ALS.
Whether it's $1-$100 all donations will be greatly appreciated. Now is the time to give back. Thank you for taking the time to read this. We all love this great man.
