Support Shane's Fight Against Cancer

Donation protected
Dear Friends and Family,

I’m reaching out to you today with a heavy heart but also with hope and determination as we navigate a challenging journey. My brother, Shane, has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 adenocarcinoma (CUP), which is cancer of unknown primary. Meaning he has a metastasis with an unknown origin. CUP is rare and only accounts for less than 5% of all cancers.

Basically, there’s a tumor playing hide and go seek in his body, and it has sent out a bunch of cells that have attached to several locations. Typical Shane to make things as difficult as possible. But, like he is known to say, “If you’re going to do it, do it right,” and by God, he’s going all out with this one.

This news has shaken our family to the core, especially under the pressure of obtaining his care without any medical insurance as a cushion for this major medical endeavor.

Shane is not just my brother; an uncle, and a son, he is an incredible person who embodies the spirit of adventure and hard work. And I love him greatly despite his many... many flaws (jk), and I have long since forgiven his transgressions of giving my daughter over 200 bouncy balls for her birthday, inventing BB gun tag, and always winning every board game we ever played as a family: all crimes in which he will have to pay for when he meets his maker (which will hopefully be a long time from now with your support and the medical intervention that these donations will be able to provide).

Shane has always been passionate about fishing, travel, and adventure. Spending countless hours on the ocean with guests of the lodge (Apex Lodge) in Pelican, Alaska, creating so many memories with so many people. He also spends much of his time abroad hiking, backpacking, and of course, fishing. No matter what happens, he has seen more amazing sights than the average 10 people combined in his 31 years.

Unfortunately, the financial burden of his diagnosis is overwhelming. The costs associated with multiple scans, biopsies, chemotherapy, an upcoming port placement, and frequent doctor’s appointments are exponentially higher than anticipated. We are actively working to secure insurance coverage, but in the meantime, we are facing significant out-of-pocket expenses that cannot be managed alone. Which is why we are setting an initial goal of $35,000 to help cover a portion of these unexpected costs.

The price of his treatments will likely surpass this greatly, but all that we can hope for is to help with any amount that we can. All funds will be applied directly to his care, comfort, and aid in arrangements needed to uproot his entire life moving from Alaska to Washington while his doctors formulate a plan that will work for him and his specific needs.

If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this campaign with your network. Spreading the word is just as valuable as any financial contribution.

Thank you for your kindness, love, and support as we fight this battle together. Let’s rally around Shane, giving him the strength and encouragement he needs to face this challenge head-on. If you feel the urge, please write a few kind words or a good joke for us to read to him when you make your donations, as this is as good of a time as any for a nice laugh amongst family and friends.

I’ll leave you with a quote:

"Frank, I'm going to get you better, you old sack of shit, and then I'm going to uncork the ass beating of a lifetime on you! And you will respect me! Peace!" - Rod (Hot Rod)
