The Black Woman is God 2020

In 2020, The Black Woman is God asserts that celebrating Black women is essential to building a more just society and a sustainable future. This project will explore the intersectionality of race, age, and gender, dismantling stereotypes of Black women.

TBWIG will reach across community colleges and universities in the Bay Area to enlist Black female students to participate in the satellite exhibition at Mills College to Reclaim physical space historically denied Black women artists.

TBWIG exhibitions Reconfigure communal trauma through healing by presenting African Diasporic traditions at SOMArts and the African American Art and Cultural Complex. Black youth showcasing dance forms often rooted in grief and ritual, acknowledge the African motifs embedded in their practices, providing a bridge to the historical meaning of their expression. The mission is to go beyond the limitations of embattled communities to foster communal and thus spiritual growth.

The community connections manifest through varying artistic mediums such as processions, visual and performing arts, installations, workshops, and artist talks, all designed to Re-Remember who Black people are as contributors to culture, globally.

The 2020 Black Woman is God exhibition will explore the intersectionality of race, age, and gender and will examine Black women's historical contributions to American society as artists, healers, and social change-makers.
