Shantelle Pratt's Cancer Fight

Donativo protegido
We all feel helpless and overwhelmed with so many in need, we are all left wondering what we can do to help. Our family is feeling this way right now. Maybe some of you out there can help?

Shantelle Pratt, my sister-in-law, has stage 3 breast cancer, which means it is very aggressive and affecting her in her lymph nodes in her under arm. Shantelle has lived a life surrounded and burdened with cancer. Her mother also suffered from breast cancer and a brother who was the first to survive a terminal brain cancer at the age of 7. Shantelle started working and supporting her family at the very young age of 13 stocking shelves at a local corner convenient store. Her mother was unable to work due to a broken back and her brother was severely physically and mentally handicapped from the cancer he had barely survived.
Shantelle has always tried to eat right and take good care of her body because she did not want to go through what her mom and brother had gone through. Unfortunately, things did not go as planned. She has been diagnosed with what society calls the "Breast cancer Gene." This was discovered after she was diagnosed with the breast cancer. This cancer also affects the ovaries and uterus of females, so, she will have to undergo a double mastectomy and a full hysterectomy over the next two years. Shantelle is currently undergoing 20 weeks of chemotherapy before they will do any surgeries because the cancer tumor had grown to the size of a large avocado. This process has been very long and tough for her and he immune system has been breaking down on her to very scary levels.

Shantelle is my beautiful, kind, loving and strong sister-in-law: Shantelle has been happily married to Seth Pratt for 8 years. (Seth is a ’94 Creswell High school graduate (GO BULLDOGS!) and my brother.) They have three beautiful children, Jacqueline -12, Jamaica-11 and Jason-7. Both she and her husband work for the Utah Pain Relief Institute. Unfortunately, Shantelle has been unable to work and this contributes to their current financial hardship. If cancer was not enough, they also suffered a flood earlier this year which depleted their savings to get their house repaired and livable again. Seth was able to get it all finished the week prior to Shantelle's first chemo treatment. Shantelle has a heart of gold. She has always been willing to help others in their time of need. She is an avid animal lover and has rescued countless animals over the years and given them a loving home. She has a giving heart and she now needs our help.

Much emotional support has been given by co-workers, friends, and family shaving their heads and wearing pink ribbons. Some have even tried to help with the bills, but they are too big. Despite the bills, the support Shantelle has received has helped her keep her faith and made her more determined to beat this disease that is plaguing her life and family right now. To all of the supporters, THANK YOU!

Here’s where your help is needed. As you can imagine, Shantelle's medical bills are vast. Though insurance is now in place, Shantelle's Treatment had to start before it became active because of how aggressively it was growing. She went through a month and a-half of treatments, tests, imaging, and other things that have accumulated some very expensive bills. Right now, the bills equal over $30,000 dollars. They will not stop here either, Shantelle's insurance requires a deductible to be paid before they will pay anything toward her treatment and she will also have to meet her out-of-pocket maximum before the bills will stop adding up. Costs are just going to continue to rise. In the next few days, a payment of $3,020.73 is needed to be paid which will cover the last 2 months of payments due with the amount of $1,510.37 due every month until the bills are satisfied. If they do not meet these requirements, then they will face garnishments of their income. Needless to say, no money tree exists in Shantelle and Seth's house and Shantelle cannot work anymore because of how her body is reacting to the treatments; therefore, income is minimal at this time. Any amount of money or support you could give would be gratefully received.

Shantelle has blessed so many in her life, now is the time for us to bless her. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your generosity and for most of us, sacrifice! All I can say is, Shantelle is definitely worth it!
