Sarah's Scoliosis Treatment

Our daughter Sarah developed scoliosis since she was 9 years old. The brace that she wore for a year didn't do anything. We took her to therapy for her condition, but the curve was getting worse and worse. On June 9, 2017, we, our family, decided to go for the spinal fusion surgery, but in the middle of the surgery, her legs and arms failed, she was going to be paralyzed for the rest of her life. The orthopedist decided to take all the hardware out again and the scoliosis couldn’t be corrected. She still has two screws in her back, the surgeon thinking that the surgery was going to continue at another time, but we cannot take that risk again with a surgery because the spinal cord was hurt and we don't know if that can happen again. Even the neurosurgeon she saw doesn't recommend surgery. He's afraid the same thing could occur or worse.

A surgery with the severity of her spine is too big of a risk where the numbers aren't in her favor. Thank God her arms weren't affected when she woke up, but her legs were completely asleep. Doctors said she wouldn't be able to walk for the rest of her life. She did however feel a lot of pain in her legs and that gave doctors hope that her sensation could return. Now, almost 2 years later, she is walking again, but her curve is pretty bad. She has been in therapy since we left the hospital in July 19, 2017.

We have been looking for a lot of options for our daughter, but because her curve so advanced, the doctors only talk of surgery. We found a place in California, USA, where they treat kids with scoliosis, "Scoliosis Care Centers", but the treatment is very expensive and is not covered by any medical insurance. To start we have to go there for 4 weeks, and then every three months for a week to continue the treatment until we can start seeing improvement in our daughter's back.

We really need to take action in our daughter's health, Scoliosis with the time, can affect lungs, heart, stomach and other parts of your body. God made us so perfect, but when you have a deformity of this kind, it affects your whole body. Your help can make our daughter's quality of life much better. We don't have all this money, but we do have faith that with this treatment we can help Sarah. We want to begin the treatment this coming June 2019 when Sarah is on summer vacation to not affect with her studies, so we need to figure out how we are going to obtain this money. Nuestra hija Sarah desarrolló escoliosis desde que tenía 9 años. La abrazadera que usó durante un año no hizo nada. La llevamos a terapia por su condición, pero la curva empeoraba cada vez más. El 9 de junio de 2017, nosotros, nuestra familia, decidimos acudir a la cirugía de fusión de la columna vertebral, pero en medio de la cirugía, le fallaron las piernas y los brazos, la paralizarían por el resto de su vida. El ortopedista decidió volver a sacar todo el hardware y la escoliosis no se pudo corregir. Todavía tiene dos tornillos en la espalda, el cirujano cree que la cirugía continuará en otro momento, pero no podemos correr ese riesgo nuevamente con una cirugía porque la médula espinal estaba lastimada y no sabemos si eso puede volver a ocurrir. . Incluso el neurocirujano que vio no recomienda cirugía. Tiene miedo de que lo mismo pueda ocurrir o peor.

Una cirugía con la severidad de su columna vertebral es un riesgo demasiado grande donde los números no están a su favor. Gracias a Dios, sus brazos no se vieron afectados cuando se despertó, pero sus piernas estaban completamente dormidas. Los médicos dijeron que no podría caminar por el resto de su vida. Sin embargo, sintió mucho dolor en sus piernas y eso le dio a los médicos la esperanza de que su sensación podría regresar. Ahora, casi 2 años después, vuelve a caminar, pero su curva es bastante mala. Ella ha estado en terapia desde que salimos del hospital el 19 de julio de 2017.

Hemos estado buscando muchas opciones para nuestra hija, pero debido a su curva tan avanzada, los médicos solo hablan de cirugía. Hemos encontrado un lugar en California. EE. UU., Donde tratan a los niños con escoliosis, "Centros de atención de escoliosis", pero el tratamiento es muy costoso y no está cubierto por ningún seguro médico. Para comenzar, tenemos que ir allí durante 4 semanas y luego cada tres meses durante una semana para continuar con el tratamiento hasta que podamos comenzar a ver una mejoría en la espalda de nuestra hija.

Realmente necesitamos actuar en la salud de nuestra hija, la escoliosis con el tiempo puede afectar los pulmones, el corazón, el estómago y otras partes de su cuerpo. Dios nos hizo tan perfectos, pero cuando tienes una deformidad de este tipo, afecta a todo tu cuerpo. Su ayuda puede mejorar la calidad de vida de nuestra hija. No tenemos todo este dinero, pero sí tenemos fe en que con este tratamiento podemos ayudar a Sarah. COMO SIGUE EL TRATAMIENTO DE NUESTRA HIJA SARAH
Después de haber empezado el tratamiento en el Scoliosis Care Center de San Jose, CA. en Junio 2019 y volver en Octubre del mismo año, estábamos supuestas a volver en Marzo del 2020. Esto no fue posible pues en ese momento estábamos empezando la pandemia. Esperamos para saber cómo se iba desarrollando toda la situación y pudimos volver para la ultima semana de Junio 2020. En las fotos podemos ver la mejoría que poco a poco está teniendo nuestra hija.
A causa de esta pandemia ha sido muy difícil continuar el tratamiento asistiendo cada 4 meses porque hemos estado muy cortos en la parte financiera. De todos modos, seguimos muy agradecidos con nuestro Papá Dios porque en medio de todo sigue obrando la sanidad en Sarita.
Les contamos que ya tenemos cita para regresar del 15 al 19 de Marzo, 2021 y esta va a ser una nueva inversión, los equipos ya necesitan ser actualizados, Sarah necesita un nuevo brace. Todo esto tiene sus costos como lo compartí la primera vez que empezamos este GoFundMe.

HOW THE TREATMENT OF OUR DAUGHTER SARAH FOLLOWS
After starting treatment at the Scoliosis Care Center in San Jose, CA. in June 2019 and returned in October of the same year, we were supposed to return in March 2020. This was not possible because at that time we were starting the pandemic. We waited to know how the whole situation was developing and we were able to return for the last week of June 2020. In the photos you can see the improvement that our daughter is having little by little.
Due to this pandemic, it has been very difficult to continue treatment, attending every 4 months because we have been very short on our finances. We continue to be very grateful to our Father God because in the midst of everything he continues His work healing Sarita.
We want to let you know that we already have an appointment to return from March 15 to 19, 2021 and this is going to be a new investment, the equipment already needs to be updated, Sarah needs a new brace. All of this has its costs as I shared it the first time we started with this GoFundMe.
