Our IVF Journey

Hi friends and family.

This was the last thing we wanted to do. As most of you know, Mitch and I have been trying to start a family since March 2023. We were so excited to find out we were pregnant the day we got back from our honeymoon. Unfortunately, we miscarried in early May. We were fortunate enough to get pregnant again in October and November of 2023 only to miscarry again. This is when our fertility journey began. We finally figured out that I have Robertsonian Translocation of my 22:13 chromosomes. This is an abnormal structural arrangement that gets passed to embryos.

Because of this, IVF with PGT genetic testing is really our only option. We have completed 1 round of IVF and were fortunate enough to receive 2 healthy embryos. However, successful transfers are not always the case. Statistically, someone going through IVF should have 2-3 healthy embryos for 1 live baby. Absolutely crazy! This has caused us to think about our future and have chosen to complete another round of IVF to hopefully receive more healthy embryos. Any baby will be a blessing but our hope is 2-3 children.

To say we’re angry and frustrated is an understatement. Mitch and I both have great jobs but unfortunately, neither have coverage for IVF and it is not required in Minnesota or Wisconsin. Nobody should have to go through this, but the added stress and the unknowns if we can even afford it, should not have to be a factor.

Our first cycle of IVF cost us around $30,000 and our next round will be around the same. Asking for help is so hard to do. We have felt the love and support throughout our first cycle and are so so grateful. Any help would be more than enough and will be put towards past bills, medications, and our upcoming IVF cycle and transfer.
