Sri Lanka is once again facing a devastating humanitarian challenge. In November 2025, Tropical Storm Ditwah swept across the entire island, triggering severe floods in multiple districts. Thousands of families have been displaced, homes and livelihoods destroyed, and children have lost their school supplies, safe spaces, and basic essentials just weeks before schools are expected to reopen in mid-December.

This moment takes us back to 2022–2023, when we launched the original “Answer Their Cry” Appeal during Sri Lanka’s economic crisis. What began as a small initiative among four friends - Shehani Alles, Setavya Mudalige, Ramesh Ganohariti, and Nynke Zandhuis - grew into a community-driven effort that raised over Rs. 1.5 million (~€4,200) and supported more than 285 families across the island.

Today, the need has risen once more.

WORKS OF HOPE – Flood Relief Sri Lanka 2025 aims to support children in Sri Lanka through their journey of education when the circumstances around them prove challenging to that goal.

Our goal:

With schools starting to reopen, many children face the possibility of returning to class empty-handed. Replacing lost books, uniforms, stationery, and sanitary items is crucial for helping them regain stability and continue their education.

We are looking to create education packs (stationery, exercise books, bags, etc.) in an effort to support the reintegration back to school for children affected by the cyclone.

We remain committed to the values that guided our first project: transparency, personal connection, and ensuring that every rupee reaches those who need it most. Once again, we will work to personally source, assemble, and distribute the packs together with trusted volunteers on the ground.

To prevent overlapping efforts with any other organisations, we will be distributing the donations directly to the families in need or organisations based on their requests.
