I’m Emily, and in June 2026 I’ll be taking part in eXXpedition: a pioneering, all‑women sailing voyage researching plastic pollution and its impact on our oceans - and us!

This mission is not just an adventure; it’s the merging of two things that have shaped who I am: my lifelong love of sailing and my deep commitment to confronting climate and environmental injustice.

Being on the water has always brought me a sense of grounding and freedom. At the same time, my career working in climate change continues to show me (daily) how climate change is not an abstract challenge. It’s lived, felt, and fought by communities here at home but also by communities around the world.

In June I will travel to the South Pacific, with eXXpedition. As part of the crew of women, I’ll be living and working at sea collecting data on microplastics, supporting ocean research, and contributing to the science needed to protect ecosystems and communities, especially those who are least responsible for the climate crisis, yet most affected by it.
