WeShareSolar: A solar panel for a school far away.

Dear Citizens  of the world,

It has been one crazy year! But, even with all this country has gone through, we are still the lucky few. There are lots of people without power or lights in places such as Kenya and the Philippines. How are students supposed to do school work? I think school is hard, but just imagine what these kids are going through! No power means no lights, and that means they have to sit under mosquito infested 7-11 lights to study for tests! For my Bar Mitzvah, I am asked to make a positive impact on the world. This is called a mitzvah project. For my mitzvah project, I am partnering with an organization called “We Share Solar” to create solar panels for schools that are not as lucky as the ones we see on a daily basis.

We Share Solar started in 2013 when a man named Hal Aronson was on a trip in Nigeria. He saw many kids my age who study day and night for school. During the day is easier, but the night is the problem. With no power, they have no way to see what they are doing during the night. If they have a test the next morning, and they spend after school helping their families, they have NO way to study. My plan is to construct one solar panel suitcase for a school that is in need of electricity.

To support the project I have selected, I need to raise $2,000 for materials and shipping.  $750 of this amount goes to the solar sensors, casing, cables, switches, and other components. The other $1,250 is used for shipping. It's essentially a "solar suitcase" with everything necessary to power lights, phone chargers, and even radios! It's an amazing project and it will help a lot of people. After the fundraising is complete, I will actually build the solar suitcase with help from Hal.

To learn more about the amazing impact We Share Solar is having, you can watch some of these videos. So far, We Share Solar has deployed 715 suitcases around the world! If you are interested, please donate!

Thank you,

Nathan
