Equipment needed for free youth sports programs
Don protégé
It takes a village to raise a child, it takes a community to build a program
Corey Montrait, a Toronto native and long-time member of the martial arts community, is setting up a not for profit organization to provide youth from underfunded communities the opportunity to participate in free sports classes.
With help from donations, Corey aims to reach more children who can benefit from extracurricular sports classes. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics' Committee on Sports Medicine and Fitness, daily physical activity classes such as kickboxing and martial arts can help children achieve fitness and focus goals.
Corey has partnered with a martial arts facility to launch a free kickboxing and martial arts program in the east end of Toronto. The facility has generously donated its space and equipment for six weeks.
Once the six-week program comes to an end, Corey will be relocating to a community centre in hopes of continuing the program. We are attempting to raise money to ensure this program remains free for children and youth. All donations from this Go Fund Me page will go towards purchasing the needed safety and training equipment such as mats, gloves, headgear, kick pads, punch pads and jump ropes.
All donations will go towards helping children and youth foster positivity and confidence, while strengthening the program and its long-term goals.
