On March 27, 2020, our beloved son, Xavier Pointer, lost his life.
Xavier Pointer is a hero to all of us. He was a friend, a four-year NJROTC cadet, a leader, a schoolmate, a helper, a giver, and a student. Chief Pointer was a nephew, a big brother, and a son. He never allowed anyone to have a bad day because he was always there to pick others up. People come and go, but Xavier was different - he genuinely cared about others. We began to realize he was unique at the end of his sophomore year when he struggled with a few classes and fell into a slump, but his drive, dedication, and commitment to excellence never allowed him to give up. He had challenges like any other young African American male, but he never complained. All you would get from him was a smile. He was a light in a dark place - a beacon for all to see. He would much rather assist others with their problems than worry about his own. He was quiet, but his actions were loud and bold. He loved hard and never associated himself with hate. His dream was to serve his country in some capacity, but he gave his life in place of an innocent bystander. Why? Because he was built like that by a caring mother, a loving auntie, a dedicated school in Proviso West, and an NJROTC unit that taught him citizenship. He loved them all dearly. He is gone way too soon, and we will never forget him.
Chief Pointer was always there to help others, and now he and his family need our help. We know the struggles taking place in the world currently, and now, a family mourns a son, which is unthinkable. Will you please consider assisting the family of Chief Pointer? He deserves an honorable send-off. It is the least we can do for a fallen hero in his last year of high school. Will you consider helping the family to close this chapter of his life with honor and dignity? It would be gratefully appreciated.
