Wayne’s Esophageal Cancer Journey

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Tara and I am raising money to help my dad with his Cancer journey.

In January, my dad, Wayne Norwood was rushed to the emergency room for throwing up blood and passing out. He went to one emergency room and they told him his sugar was in the high 400s. They told him that he may have busted a blood vessel while throwing up which would explain the blood. They ended up
releasing him.

Something didn’t sit right with us, so he was taken to Piedmont Newnan that afternoon. they ran some more test and found that his blood count had dropped significantly since that morning and something was not right. They decided to keep him and run more tests. They ended up finding a mass / tumor in his esophagus. They decided to do a biopsy and it came back as invasive adenocarcinoma, moderate to poorly differentiated.

The results started the process of seeing Dr. Gynther , the oncologist. He decided it would be best to have a PET scan done to see exactly how big and where the tumor / mass was. Once the PET scan came back he told us that thankfully it had NOT spread to his lymph nodes this made his journey a little better because it was treatable.

He referred us to a Surgeon at Emory in Atlanta, who we went and seen on March 17th. He said that he didn’t think my dad would be a candidate for surgery just yet because of his medical problems (Diabetic, Cardiovascular disease, and others)

The first goal was to get some Chemo and Radiation started.

TREATMENT PLAN:
Chemo every other Monday for the next 6 months. AND Radiation Monday-Friday for the next 6 weeks.

they believe that the chemo and radiation with help shrink and kill the cancer cells successfully and once the treatments are over, he will have to have surgery to remove the dead cells.

we wanted to create a GoFund me to help cover Medical Expenses and extra cost affiliated with this journey.

My dad and stepmom are on SSI/disability and are on limited incomes. Any donation is greatly appreciated.

with the chemo they told my dad that he will have good weeks and bad weeks. He had his first chemo treatment on April 3rd and it made him very sick a few days afterwards. He has his 2nd treatment on April 17th and he needs at least $300 before they will do the treatment. He does have Insurance, but of course insurance doesn’t cover all the costs.

if you have any questions, please reach out and ask. We are an open book when it comes to this new journey. Also, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

if you can’t donate, we would love all the prayers we could get! We believe that our God is a healer and provider and this Journey is just another chapter in my dads life book. ❤️
