A group of brothers and I traveled to Kenya with HHRD's Youth for Africa program. We visited villages and orphanages in the poorest regions of East Kenya. In these drought-stricken areas, rain had not fallen in 5 years. Families were living off less than 50 cents per day. Many of the children had no access to food, water, clothes/shoes, and sanitation. Just by simply peering into the children’s eyes you could see the years of accumulative hardship and suffering.  Even through a life of hardship, Wallahi these children were some of the most beautiful souls we have ever met.
Sa’d ibn Ubadah reported: I said, “O Messenger of Allah, my mother has died. Shall I give charity on her behalf?” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Yes.” I said, “Which charity is best?” The Prophet said, “A drink of water.”
We have seen first hand the benefits that these wells have had in these destitute communities where there is no source of water.  Building wells in these areas is one of the best things we can do in this dunya and it will be the best of Sadaqa Jariah for us when we leave this Earth.
