We are Team Quaranteering - a group of 7 graduates (Andrius, Crawford, Daniel, Euan, Isabelle, Keira and Sophie) at General Dynamics Land Systems UK. As part of our Graduate Community Project we have been tasked with supporting a charity of our choosing. After much researching and deliberating over charities, we all agreed to support the Wales Air Ambulance Charity.
What do Wales Air Ambulance do?
Wales Air Ambulance provides air cover to relieve illness and injury wherever and whenever anybody in Wales needs it. They are on standby every day of the year to protect human life through Helicopter Emergency Medical Services and air ambulance transfers across Wales.
Wales Air Ambulance can be there for anyone in Wales within 20 minutes, providing critical care as well as a means of urgent transport to hospital.
Why do they need our support?
Each year Wales Air Ambulance attends around 2,500 missions, covering rural countryside as well as bustling towns and cities. Each mission costs an average of £1500 and the charity needs to raise £6.5 million every year to operate the service. They rely solely on charitable donations, fundraising events and membership of their in-house Lifesaving Lottery to achieve this financial target.
What are we going to do?
In order to raise money to help support the Wales Air Ambulance Charity, we will be challenging ourselves to cumulatively walk/run the length of Wales (circa 182miles)- this represents the vast area that Wales Air Ambulance covers in providing critical care to ill or injured patients across all communities. This distance equates to 26 miles per team member, however, some team members wish to make it more challenging for themselves by personalising the challenge. This could include things such as doing two half-marathons, cumulatively climbing the height of Snowdon or even litter picking.
We have set ourselves the aim of fundraising £1000 in total and would greatly appreciate any donations (big or small). Stay tuned to this page to get updates on how each team member is covering the 26 miles, how much we have fundraised and if any team members are brave enough to personalise the challenge.
Thank You for support!
