I just wanted to send out an update on my husband. While at the track yesterday he was in an accident while working on a buggy-from what I understand the buggy took off, he tried stopping it, he was dragged and pinned between the buggy and a RV bumper.
He is in the ICU in Melbourne. Due to COVID not even I as his wife can go see him. I’m being updated via phone.
He is stable, I was able to speak to him this am. He is in pain so he was not up for talking to much. (The nurse I spoke to last night did give me some misinformation- she had said it looked his spleen and kidney needed to be removed-once transferred to ICU, the ICU doctor said otherwise)
He has a concussion, several left rib fractures/brakes from rib 7-10, there are several fractures in the back side near the spine as well as on abdominal side. Grade 4 splenic laceration, which they did go in this am and did an embolization. Grade 5 renal laceration.
At this point there’s nothing we can do but wait. We are letting his body do it’s job and heal the kidney and spleen, He can function without his spleen if needed. Let’s see what his body heals. The ribs-there was a discussion on maybe putting in a plate and screws to mobilize the chest wall- the doctors said we can see what the next few days bring until a decision is made on that. Hopefully that won’t be necessary so... Rite now we just need lots of prayers from everyone. I’ll be staying close to the hospital at this point. My sister is with me for now, I didn’t sleep well so i may rest. I will try my best to keep everyone update as I get information.
I just want to say thank you for all ours friends and family that have been there helping us! There’s too many to tag but I want you all to know you’ve helped so so much!
