We are here to let you all know, our amazing light, Kevin Johnson has had a medical health emergency. In late October, he ended up having a large brain hemorrhage deep inside his brain just above the brain stem. He was lucky to be found early enough to make it to the emergency room where he spent weeks in the Intensive Care Unit receiving quality attention. We are all so grateful and blessed that he is making progress each day, but he is presently on his journey of recovery down in Boston at an inpatient rehabilitation hospital and going through intensive therapy sessions everyday (sometimes 4 to 5 a day). Through his sessions with physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language pathology, and the neurology team, he has been learning to walk again, regain his speech, and working on continued neuroplasticity in order to gain his independence back. We have been with him through it all and we have been helping him to keep his spirits high and motivation up, but at no surprise, he has been doing a great job at all of that on his own.
As you all know, Kevin has worked his whole life providing space for others in regards to inclusion, accessibility, people with disabilities, ableism, diversity, education, and a deeper understanding for each other which only makes us all stronger. As people who adore him and all his advocacy work for others over the years, we feel it is only fair that we give him support as well in his time of need. Many of you have reached out in the last few months wondering how you could help. We anticipate that he will have various challenges in the coming months, including continued medical care, therapy and adaptive solutions in time. We feel that giving a compassionate donation, no matter how small, to the most compassionate person we know, Kevin Johnson, would help him face this challenge a little easier.
