Our Heart Beats for Lucas
Brian and Jennifer Gutman are expecting the birth of their second baby boy in July. Baby Lucas Gutman has been diagnosed with a Congenital Heart Defect known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). His heart is under-developed and after birth he will require several surgical procedures. He will undergo his first surgery within the first week after birth, another around 6 months and 2 years. During this time the surgeons at The University of Michigan will essentially reroute blood flow through his heart and if any of these procedures should fail, he will require an immediate heart transplant in order to survive.
At this time the Gutman are hoping to stay close to baby Lucas by staying at the Ronald McDonald house, however these rooms cannot be reserved and arebooked on a first come first served basis. The Gutman's are expecting a significant loss of income due to all the time they will miss work from baby Lucas's 3 surgeries and sunsequent care. We hope to ease some of the stress by raising funds to assist with possible hotel stays, food expenses, medical care and possibly childcare for their 2 year old Jacob, when family is unavailable to watch him.
