Hi, my name is Elena, and I’m writing this with a heavy heart. My husband and I, along with our three children, two cats, and our rabbit, are currently living in a hotel — fighting every day just to stay afloat and keep our family together.

We never imagined we’d end up here. We were stable for years, living in the same home for five years — until we got evicted, but, because of that eviction, no one will rent to us now — even though it wasn’t truly our fault.

Our Reality Right Now

We’re living in a small hotel room, trying to make it feel like “home” for our kids. My husband works nonstop doing delivery jobs — driving long hours, wearing himself down — but no matter how hard he works, it’s never enough to cover everything. He can't even find a new job because we wouldn't have enough money to survive the gap between paychecks.

We’re barely managing to pay for the hotel week to week, and on top of that:

    •    His car desperately needs work so he can work safely.

    •    I have another car that could help me get to work too, but we can’t afford to get it on the road.

    •    All of our belongings — the kids’ clothes, family photos, medical records, everything — are in storage units we’re behind on. If we can’t catch up soon, everything is going to auction and we'll loose everything, family photos, adoption records, medical papers, everything.

We’ve reached out for help so many times, but because we aren’t technically “homeless on the street,” we don’t qualify for most assistance programs. We’re doing everything we can, but it feels like we’re being punished for trying to keep a roof over our kids’ heads and surviving. Even if we can move somewhere else, we would but, without 2 cars on the road and with the storage units, we're stuck, we need somewhere to go.

Why We’re Asking for Help

We don’t want pity — we just need a fighting chance. We’re hardworking, loving parents who are trying to give our children some sense of stability again. They deserve to feel safe, to have a home, to not worry if they’ll have to move again next week.

Every dollar donated will go toward:

    •    Paying for our hotel stay so our kids have somewhere safe to sleep

    •    Fixing my husband’s car so he can keep working

    •    Getting our second car running so I can help bring in income

    •    Catching up on storage payments so we don’t lose everything we own

    •    Saving for a security deposit and first month’s rent so we can finally move into a real home again

From One Parent to Another…

This has been the hardest thing we’ve ever gone through. It’s humbling, terrifying, and exhausting. But I’m holding onto faith — faith that there are kind people out there who understand what it’s like to be doing your absolute best and still falling short.
