Hello. My name is Elena, I’m writing this with a heavy heart, my family and I need your help. My husband and I have 3 kids and a cat named Ginger. We sold our house back in December of 2024 and have been living in various hotels and motels ever since. Nobody will rent to us and since we’ve been in hotels for so long it’s drained us of everything we had. We’ve been fighting every day, struggling for so long and it’s getting worse everyday. We’ve been living in this particular motel since July and now management is saying they have the entire motel booked up in 3 weeks and we need to find somewhere else to go, we don’t have anywhere to go. My husband and I have called around to churches and all the major and minor organizations in the area that deal with homelessness including 211 and as long as we’re paying for a room, we’re considered self sufficient and not homeless. Fast forward until now, with the motel taking up the majority of what he makes working his gig jobs, there isn’t too much money left for food or any other bills. I’ve been applying to jobs within walking distance and trying to find help anyway i can but still coming up empty. I have another car that needs some work done to it, so it can be road ready, or at the very least so we can move the car and take it with us when we need to leave the motel.

We’ve called Your Way Home, the main organization in the area, and he said the shelters are full so we can put you on a waiting list and then figure out options for your kids. I didn’t know what that meant but, after doing a lot of research, the conversation basically meant that he’s going to stick my kids in foster care and put us on a waiting list for one of the shelters, which means my husband and I can go sleep in our car or pitch a tent in the woods somewhere with no running water and wait until they maybe call us. I have diabetes managed with insulin and I need to keep my insulin cold, otherwise it will spoil and it won’t be any good anymore. If I have to live outside, I’m sure to wind up in a hospital because it’s only a matter of time before I end up with no insulin at all. All of the rest of our stuff will have to get thrown out because we won’t be able to lug everything around outside.

We’re trying to make the best of it and make this small place feel like home for our kids the best we can but it’s not and we need help. It feels as if we’re being punished for trying to keep our kids lives as stable as possible throughout all of this.

Why We’re Asking For Help

We don’t want your pity. We just need a fighting chance. We’re hard working, loving and kind people who are trying to give our children some sense of stability. My kids deserve to feel safe and to have a home and a roof over their heads. They shouldn’t have to worry if they have to pack up and move again in the next week or month or if they’ll have a bed to sleep in.

This has no doubt been the roughest thing I have ever had to go through, but I’m holding onto the idea that there might be kind people out there somewhere that understand what it’s like to do your best but still not have it be enough.
