Disaster Strikes for farmer Pete

Hi my name is Sheri and I am fundraising for a good friend, Pete Newberry.

Pete has had a bit of bad luck recently.

He and his family have a small farm (by Jeremy Clarkson standards) in very rural West Dorset, the viability of which has crashed over the last few years. It doesn’t make enough for all the family to live off anymore and this is the reality of our farming communities. It’s very tough indeed to manage life like this…..

However, a year ago Pete bravely decided to start a separate business ‘helping out’ or ‘temping’ on other farms using his own machinery. He has his own tractor and took out a loan for an extra piece of equipment needed. He found customers and everything was just starting to finally go well when disaster struck and his tractor broke down, he now has the prospect of a repair bill for thousands of pounds. He has a loan already for his new equipment so things are now financially much worst and he needs to get working again asap.

The thing is he is so hard working and his business is very viable, lots of farmers here need temporary help during the whole year and he knows this work and the farming communities inside out. His clients are missing him! So if we can get his tractor fixed up he can get going again and earn his keep and help his family farm.

On the scale of life problems this may not seem important but here is an opportunity to help a small farming community in a positive way.

Our farms and farmers are so precious to all our futures and lots are leaving farming forever which will effect all of us in the long term. No farms ….no food guys.
