Victims of the Russian-Ukrainian war
Donativo protegido
Hello everyone! My grandparents, Alla, and Peter are victims of the Russian-Ukrainian war, and we are hoping to raise money to help them survive this hardship. They were born in 1944 and 1945, at the end of World War II. They didn’t live in luxury, but they were happy and at peace.
They owned a house in Debaltsevo in the Donetsk region where we were raised. Everything was good until 2014 when Russian-backed separatists started an armed conflict in the area. Their days of peace were over, and my grandparents were forced to hide from the constant shelling in their cellar with no food or electricity. On one unfortunate day, their house was hit, and they barely closed the cellar door in time to survive. When they came out, they saw their home in ruins. Everything was gone, from the pool my grandfather built to the garden my grandmother tended to every day. They left their destroyed hometown and fled to safety. Eventually, they were able to find a place to live in Nikopol.
At 70 years old, they had to restart their entire lives. For the past seven years, my grandparents were trying to get back to normal. On March 24, 2022, Russia began a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Multiple cities were bombarded, and more terrible attacks started afterward. My grandparents were hesitant to leave once again. On top of that, they were recovering from COVID-19 at the time. They were set on staying until the night when Putin’s army got to the city of Energodar, just a few miles away from my grandparents’ house, and set fire to the largest nuclear power plant in Europe.
My grandparents had no choice but to evacuate once again. With the help of my mom's cousin, they managed to get to Poland safely. Now, they are temporarily staying with a distant friend of relatives trying to make it through. They're unable to speak the language and have no idea what their future holds. My great aunt with her 12-year-old granddaughter from Kharkiv are also with my grandparents. Any money donated will be used to provide housing, food, medicine, etc. for my family. If you are able to, please help!
