My name is Kirk, and I am the younger brother of Richard Taiwo, known to so many of you as Speaker Flex.
We are raising funds to give Richard the fitting send-off he deserves: a funeral and memorial full of love, music, and celebration, just as he would have wanted. He brought the party to the people throughout his life and now we want to bring it to him one last time.
Richard wasn’t just my brother, he was a phenomenon. With his huge JBL speaker on a custom trolley, he walked the streets of towns and cities across the country, turning pavements into dancefloors and crowds of strangers into communities. He lived to spread joy, and his music and energy lit up every space he entered.
In May 2025, Richard was rushed to hospital in severe pain. After tests, he was given the devastating news: Stage 4 pancreatic cancer that had already spread to his liver. Doctors told him it was inoperable. Most people would have been crushed by this but not Richard. He clung to hope, found strength in his spirituality, and believed every day was a gift. He kept moving, exercising, changing his lifestyle, and most importantly, continuing to share positivity with those around him.
Even when his beloved speaker setup was stolen while he was still in hospital, Richard didn’t lose heart. With the support of friends, family, and his loyal fan base, he was able to replace some of his equipment and continue performing, this time with a smaller setup, adapted to his new strength.
This summer, despite his illness, we took a long-planned family trip to Jamaica. It was a dream come true for all of us, but especially for Richard. True to form, he brought his music along and became the heartbeat of the hotel, dancing, smiling, and bringing people together, just as he always had.
Sadly, only weeks after we returned, Richard’s condition suddenly worsened. On Saturday 30th August 2025, with his daughter by his side, he passed away peacefully. We believed we still had more time, but his journey ended far too soon.
Richard was more than a son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend, he was a beacon of light who touched countless lives. As Speaker Flex, his presence multiplied love, laughter, and togetherness everywhere he went. His legacy is one of joy and resilience, of never giving up, and of always finding a reason to dance.
✨ Richard danced until the end. Let’s celebrate him in the way he lived — with music, vibes, and love. ✨
Thank you so much for reading, supporting, and helping us honour his memory.
