Veteran on Life Support; Family Needs YOUR help

Update: 6/20/2019
First I want to give a BIG THANKS to everyone for their prayers and generosity for Jacob Crowell and his family. The original goal of $10,000 was decided just shortly after their family’s tragic incident. At that point no one even knew if Jacob would survive. Since that time MIRACLES have occurred and Mary, Jacob’s wife has fought SO HARD to ensure he has safe and adequate care, which has not always been the case.
Now that Jacob is more medically stable and regaining his ability to participate in rehab the Crowell family faces large expenses. Jacob’s VA benefits are waiting to be completed and Mary can no longer maintain her previous employment with the post office. Mary has been traveling several hours per day in order to provide care and supervision for Jacob while working with family for the care of their 3 little girls.
The Crowell’s home also sustained damage in the tragedy which must be repaired soon to avoid further damage from the elements. Mary is VERY hesitant to ask for help for anyone or anything other than Jacob’s medical care but after maintaining daily communication with her we decided that we would step in and ask for help for her.
Mary is a fighter and all of the support you all have offered keeps her strong. She has begun to participate in counseling to heal from witnessing Jacob’s event and is looking for appropriate providers for her children. Now that Jacob and Mary and making medical miracles, we need help make miracles too.
The new financial goal for the Crowell’s was set to $125,000 which yes, is a hefty goal, however it will be necessary to have choices for specialized medical rehabilitation, home repairs, household expenses, counseling services, and medical travel expenses. We thank Jacob and his fellow warriors for their service and we humbly ask for YOUR support if the Crowell family now. THANK YOU!
Sincerely,
Steve Swisher

Please read the original PTSD spouse support forum post that inspired this GoFundMe. I'm sure it will break your heart like it did ours. After reading the post I will explain who I am and why we need to help now.

"I'm so lost and devastated right now.
Yesterday my husband called the VA trying to get an earlier mental health appointment....He got angry about something that was said and handed me his phone with anger and tears in his eyes. I get told by the guy on the phone that they'll "email and try to call with his new appointment information".
Fast forward to 11:20pm, my husband shot himself right in front of me...Completely unexpected. I thought he was gone until one of the police officers informed me he still had a pulse.
He was life flighted to the hospital.
At the moment there's nothing that can be done except make him as comfortable as possible.
I went to see him this morning and I stayed for maybe two minutes. I couldn't see him like that.
They have him heavily sedated, hooked up to a breathing machine, have tubes and hoses everywhere. They said 72hrs before they'll be able to do anything else...the swelling in his brain has to come down.
Told us to hope for the best, prepare for the worst and to just pray.
Guess what?! Never received that call or email, not that it matters now.
We don't know if he'll pull through.
I'm so lost. Our baby just turned 3 months old and we have two other children too. I don't know what to tell them. I can't even look at our middle girl without bawling because she is his mini me.
I just don't know what to do. I can't be without him. I haven't slept but maybe 40 minutes since 5am yesterday. How can we go back to our home after this? I won't be able to take our girls there until I hire someone to clean up the stuff first.
My mind is so all over the place.
I just don't know what to do.
Why did this have to happen???"
**Devastating. The Crowell family, Mary and their children, are currently living moment by moment while Jacob fights for his life. Please read updates that she has shared in-between conversations with doctors and attempted reasons and explanation to her 3 young children.
Tuesday May 23:
"We're currently staying with his parents until, well I just don't know when. His parents have been helpful. They're hurting too.
I'm not sure which va he had called. His phone is still at the house or I'd check. I can't close my eyes longer than a blink or I see it all over again. I just don't know what to do. I feel like I failed him. Our family."
Wednesday May 24:
"I called for an update this morning and it just doesn't look good right now. They've been weening him off the sedation and he hasn't responded to pain or tried waking up."
Wednesday May 24:
“My father in law has found someone that will go clean it [home due to GSW].
I have also been set up with a counselor and have talked to two of them today which took a huge weight off of me for the time being.
Our girls' schools have also been taken care of and they are there to help as well.
I am so overwhelmed and grateful for everyone's thoughts and prayers. For everyone offering to help. For everyone simply listening.
I'll be calling to check on him here in a hour or two. I'm trying to give it time to before calling again. I know miracles can happen and I've been praying for one.
I sat our oldest down today and had to tell her where her daddy is and what's going on. Not the details obviously. She knows he may not come home. I reassured her how much he loves them. That's one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I don't know how to tell our middle child though.
Today has been the hardest so far and I know it's going to get worse before it gets better, if that's even possible.”
Wednesday May 24:
“Last update I have for today.
They did another CT scan and said there have been no changes so far which isn't necessarily a bad thing. They were looking to see if there was any other bleeding going on and there's not. They started him on the meds he usually takes minus the one he didn't want to be on anymore because he said it was making him feel worse, Gabapentin. They also started giving him nutrition via another tube. There's still a chance he may wake up. We just need the swelling to start coming down.
I'm trying so hard to be positive and keep hope.
We are all planning to go visit him tomorrow. My mom will be flying in as soon as she gets her FMLA paperwork taken care of.”
Wednesday May 24:
“Update:
He tolerated the nutrition throughout the night.
No other changes other than when they tested his gag reflexes, he DID respond to that. He coughed! That's been the best news so far and gives me more hope.”
**The Crowell’s were married in 2011 and have brought three children into their beautiful family. Mary and Jacob have done the best they can to find support through VA to help Jacob transition into civilian life. This is a HARD battle and it would take me years to explain it. If you are the wife or family member of a veteran who suffers from PTSD, depression, guilt, or other mental and physical health issues then you understand and you know why helping them financially during this tragic time can help tremendously. The financial burden related to this type of tragedy is immense. The money will be spent to get help where help is needed during this time. Please give what you can even if it means sharing this campaign to everyone you know. Let’s get this to the corners of the county so that we can raise up this family in a time of need and offer them service as they have us and our country.
My personal phone number is [teléfono redactado]. Please feel free to call and ask about how the Crowell’s will receive your financial support. This will be a completely transparent fundraiser and all questions will be answered to the best of my ability. This fundraiser has the option to share admin privileges for updates etc. Please call or text if you are a family or friend who wants to help. I am trying to not burden Mary with anything right now other than being with her children and husband while he fights for his life.
HE SERVED US, NOW IS THE TIME TO SHOW HIM WHO HE WAS FIGHTING FOR, AND HOW MUCH WE APPRECIATE HE AND HIS FAMILY'S SACRIFICE.
Please donate to the Crowell Family today.
