My name is Laurent. I am Venezuelan and currently live abroad. I am creating this fundraiser to ask for support for my family in Venezuela, who were directly affected by the recent earthquakes.

My two grandmothers, both elderly women, lived in Caracas in their home at the Luz y Esperanza Building, located on Calle del Agua, behind the Ministry of Education. For years, that apartment was their safe place — the place where they built memories, celebrated family moments, and felt protected. In another apartment in the same building lived my aunt and her four children. My aunt worked hard every day and had a small food business on the ground floor of the building, which was her way of providing for her family.

After the earthquakes, everything changed. The building was severely damaged and is no longer safe. The place they called home for years is no longer habitable. They lost their home, their belongings, and the stability they had worked so hard to build. Emergency services arrived after 72 hours, but the only option given to them was to sleep on the streets while authorities tried to coordinate a temporary shelter.

The people I am raising funds for are my immediate family. I am their granddaughter and niece. In total, this fundraiser will support seven people: my two elderly grandmothers, my aunt, and her four young children.

The funds raised will be used to help build a temporary home for them and to cover their basic needs while they are without safe shelter and without income. The temporary home will be built by family members, so donations will only be used to purchase construction materials and supplies, such as wood, blocks, cement, roofing materials, tools, and other necessary items.

Funds will also help cover essential needs including food, water, medicine, clothing, hygiene items, and other basic necessities while they begin to recover and rebuild their lives.

Today, my family is facing one of the most difficult moments we have ever experienced. My grandmothers, because of their age, urgently need a safe place to stay. My aunt and her four children are also without a home and unable to return to their normal lives for now.

Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a meaningful difference. If you cannot donate, sharing this story would also mean so much to us. I understand that I am responsible for using all funds exactly as described in this campaign, and I am committed to being transparent about how donations are spent.

Mis dos abuelas, ambas mujeres mayores, vivían en Caracas en su hogar en el Edificio Luz y Esperanza, ubicado en la Calle del Agua, detrás del Ministerio de Educación. Durante años, ese apartamento fue su lugar seguro: el lugar donde construyeron recuerdos, compartieron momentos familiares y se sintieron protegidas. En otro apartamento del mismo edificio vivía mi tía con sus cuatro hijos. Mi tía trabajaba todos los días y tenía un pequeño negocio de comida en la planta baja del edificio, que era su manera de sostener a su familia.

Después de los terremotos, todo cambió. El edificio quedó gravemente afectado y ya no es seguro. El lugar que por años llamaron hogar dejó de ser habitable. Perdieron su vivienda, sus pertenencias y la estabilidad que con tanto esfuerzo habían logrado construir. Los servicios de emergencia llegaron después de 72 horas, pero la única opción que les dieron fue dormir en la calle mientras las autoridades intentaban coordinar un refugio temporal.

Las personas para quienes estoy recaudando fondos son mi familia directa. Soy su nieta y sobrina. En total, esta recaudación ayudará a siete personas: mis dos abuelas mayores, mi tía y sus cuatro hijos pequeños.

Los fondos recaudados se utilizarán para construir una vivienda temporal para ellos y para cubrir sus necesidades básicas mientras se encuentran sin un refugio seguro y sin ingresos. La vivienda temporal será construida por miembros de la familia, por lo que las donaciones se usarán únicamente para comprar materiales y suministros de construcción, como madera, bloques, cemento, láminas para el techo, herramientas y otros materiales necesarios.

Los fondos también ayudarán a cubrir necesidades esenciales como comida, agua, medicinas, ropa, artículos de higiene y otras necesidades básicas mientras comienzan a recuperarse y a reconstruir sus vidas.

Hoy, mi familia enfrenta uno de los momentos más difíciles que hemos vivido. Mis abuelas, por su edad, necesitan urgentemente un lugar seguro donde quedarse. Mi tía y sus cuatro hijos también están sin hogar y sin la posibilidad de retomar su vida normal por ahora.

Cualquier contribución, por pequeña que sea, hará una gran diferencia. Si no puedes donar, compartir esta historia también significaría muchísimo para nosotros. Entiendo que soy responsable de usar todos los fondos exactamente de la manera descrita en esta campaña, y me comprometo a ser transparente sobre cómo se utilizan las donaciones.
