Vaughan family moving from China

Hey friends and family, as most of you know we (Josiah, Amanda, Lincoln and Landry) have been living abroad in China for the past 5 years. Both of our children have been born there, we have built a wonderful life and had plans to stay for at least the next 2-3 years as this past year Josiah began a new job which he has absolutely loved at BASIS International School of Guangzhou. We would have been able to meet some crucial financial goals within the next few years by remaining in GZ to finish out this contract, however as you all know the global COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted much of the world and we found ourselves living on two different continents, with myself and the kids staying with family in Texas and Josiah in China fulfilling his duties at the school. We all 4 traveled to Texas together in February to allow Josiah to teach his classes online in a better environment as our apartment in China is small, the internet is not very reliable, and we have two small (very loud) children and the option of taking them anywhere during the day to give him space to work was not available as quarantine shutdowns had already been in place in China at the time. Josiah had to return to GZ by March 12th to prepare for classes to begin again in-person, and 16 days later on March 28th the borders were closed, keeping the rest of us from joining him at home. The school strongly recommended that teachers remain in China for the Summer break, as if they decided to exit the country they may not be able to return before the start of school and therefore would be unable to fulfill their contract and keep their jobs. Over the past 3 1/2 months we have been wrestling with the difficult choice of either (A) giving up our life in China, a stable job and good income, most of our belongings and plans for the future, saying goodbye to dear friends and colleagues (and no closure for myself and the kids) or (B) our family remains separated indefinitely until China reopens its borders to allow entry for foreigners again. Both of which are not ideal, but we had been holding out hope that the borders would open by August or September and we could be reunited in China, keep the job and Lincoln could start Preschool at BASIS for the fall. One week ago we received another email from the school stating that the borders would definitely not be reopening by October, and in fact it would be MANY months longer than we thought, possibly not even until summer of 2021. The decision has become clear that we absolutely cannot keep "waiting it out" so we have begun to make arrangements to repatriate to the US. Josiah has started packing up our apartment in GZ, selling most of our belongings and trying to decide what keepsakes can be brought back here, and we are both looking for jobs here. Since we have been living in two different countries on one income for the past 4 months, we have not been able to financially prepare for a big international move as we had hoped to be able to do over the next 2 years. We have very little in storage here in Texas, and will need to purchase furniture and other necessities to establish a new home wherever we find jobs. We were blessed with the means and opportunity able to purchase a vehicle back in February, so we have transportation but with that comes monthly car payments and insurance that we will need to continue covering as well.  We truly need the support of our village to get back on our feet, and greatly appreciate any donations and support during this time. We are grieving the loss of so much right now, but as hard as this is and even though this is not the outcome we would have chosen, we're grateful for the family and community we have supporting us literally around the globe.
