Let me tell you my story and how three letters (ALS) has changed my life . My life began to change way back in 2004 when I first noticed that getting out of the bath tub was not easy for me anymore .Then I noticed that tons of little things were getting harder like braiding hair, cutting paper and writing. As time marches on ,I was not( former marching band member). That when I began to think there's more going on . I was having a hard with stepping and balance. So I took myself to Ben Taub Hospital and because of my slured speech I was seen right away. After confirming that I was not having a stroke testing began .
After 7 days of testing I was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS. I know you are thing what is ALS ,well let me explain . Known as Lou Gehrig's disease, it affect the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement.Over time I become weak, to weak to move much .But I have been so blessed to be surrounded by the most loving and generous people . It really touch my heart when people who don't know me impact my life . My husband of 18 years goes above and beyond the call of duty every day.
Although my mind is sharp and body slowly weakening as time marches on. But I press on ,everyday I get up and live my life so I'm not in my bed all day waiting to die. Most of my time is spent running my Boutique and my Origami Owl Custom Jewelry business .During tax time I do tax returns .I still like to get out into the world and have fun ,visit friends, family and most of all attend church .I have grandchildren who I would love to visit. But I need your help. I need a van that I can roll into while remaining in my wheelchair . My 13 year old has join the soccer team and I have missed all but one game.
My goal is to purchase a used van or mini bus.I hope to be note free because I have medical expense outside of my basic living expense .
Please share my story with your friends and family .
