The first 6 ½ months of 2018 were the happiest I have ever been in my life. I finally had the resources to get the mental healthcare that I needed. I spent 2 months getting over 130 hours of therapy, and it turned my life around...At least until July 12 when I was raped by an acquaintance. That situation went from horrible to devastating when I reported the incident to the detective at Orlando Police Department. He told me that it was entirely my fault, threatened me with arrest, and refused to even open a case file on it.
My body’s response to all of this trauma has been to take control of the one thing in my life that I could control: the amount of food I eat. I have severely restricted my calories for months, causing me to suffer some health consequences including damage to my heart, which could have been caused by a very minor heart attack. I also now have severe anemia (almost to the point of transfusion, low blood pressure, dizziness, and shortness of breath. All of this was diagnosed during a recent week-long hospital stay.
At this point, I need to enroll in a 30-day program at an eating disorder clinic to heal both my body and mind. I have used up my PTO due to these events, so this time will be unpaid for me. I also have to pay my deductible + 20% of my overall bill. I have been a single mother of three for the past 12 years and have been unable to build up any savings. I am asking for your support financially if you are able and emotionally as I move through this long journey of recovery. Once that happens, I am going to go public with my story and start a campaign to stop the police from being the “2nd rape” for victims.
