JOEY G - USA Down Syndrome Swimming, Inc. (USADSS)

Greetings!  

We are fundraising for Joey Gallagher of Birmingham, Michigan who has qualified and will be competing in the 10th Bi-Annual World Down Syndrome Swim Championships in Albufeira, Portugal this October 2022. This event sponsored by the Down Syndrome International Swimming Organization (DSISO) is different than Special Olympics as the athletes all have Down syndrome (trisomy-21, three copies of the 21st chromosome) and have met or exceeded challenging qualifying times to compete internationally. There will be athletes from over 50 countries competing including Joey and 20 swimmers representing the USA. We are honored and Joey is so proud to have qualified! Unlike Special Olympics, the costs to train, travel and to participate falls on the athlete.

Joey recently graduated from Groves High School in Birmingham, MI where he swam on the varsity mens swim team all four years and participated in States in a special exhibition para event paving the way towards future inclusion in MHAAS. Joey loves to swim and this is an incredible once in a lifetime opportunity for Joey to keep his focus on.

We are extremely grateful towards your consideration to contribute to help support Joey’s training and travel expenses. We recently raised money directly for USADSS via Facebook to help support the team uniforms and coaches travel.   We are grateful to all who contributed and additional funds raised here in excess of Joey’s expenses will be further contributed to USADSS.
