Unfortunate Freak Accident

Life is known for throwing the biggest curve ball at people, yet, on April 18, 2020,  it threw an SUV at me instead. I imagine I had woken up with the intentions of going through my day executing my to do list as planned, but it wasn't to be.

My whole memory of that day was wiped.

From what I was told I had set out for a morning jog to go join my father for breakfast at his place.

At some point during my run it was cut short via an SUV that spiraled out of control traveling at 80mph due to the driver suffering a diabetic seizure.

I was struck down from behind fracturing my (C5 C6 spine, also causing a compound fracture to my right leg tiba and fibula,my scalp lifted and the list goes on).

After waking up in an unfamiliar surrounding with strange faces, bright lights and several questions to which I recalled responding, "what happened to me, and why am I here?" before passing out. A little while after I came back around and was then told what occurred.

I went through several hours of surgery the next day, and miraculously without any permanent damage. I couldn't eat for days or move my body. I was in more pain than I can describe and pain medication did not help. I couldn’t see my family or friends due to COVID rules in the hospital so physically, I had to go through this alone.

During the process of my recovery I remained in the hospital for a week before moving onto my occupational rehab for another week, even though it was predicted for me to be in both facilities for much longer.

To which I honestly believe comes down to the phenomenal efforts and prayers of my support system; My girlfriend, my family, my friends and all the other wonderful people that I've never met that sent their blessings through everyone else that I know. They enhanced my will power and motivated me mentally to become better physically.

As my body and mind progress over the months, I am stressed to say that the Financial hit of this accident seems not to be getting better.

Doctors mentioned that If the paramedics hadn't put on the neck brace in time, I could have died instantly. Although I am ever grateful to be alive, I have always worked towards having no debt and now I am neck deep, swimming in all this debt. With a lien against me, preventing me from accomplishing my business dreams and messing up my credit.

Before COVID, I had just taken and passed my CJBAT and physical test to join the police academy and now it is said that it will be a while before I can even run again.

Although the driver suffers these seizures often, he is still allowed to drive. He is driving with no insurance and almost took my life. He is not being held responsible for my $300,000.00 surgeries,  and the other thousands of dollars in medical bills that I have and cannot pay. After such a tragic accident that he caused, I haven't received as much as an apology. My lawyer has been working on this for months and has told me that unfortunately, nothing can be done.

Times are hard for everyone, especially this year. But if you can, please do share a helping hand. Thank you in advance.
