Hi I'm Oisín. On the 10th of April, I ran an Ultramarathon around Dublin as my Jailbreak fundraiser. Jailbreak is a scavenger hunt that takes place annually around Europe (this year Spain and Portugal), organised by the Vincent De Paul and An Cumman Gaelach societies in Trinity College Dublin (see https://www.instagram.com/jailbreakhq/).
Where the money raised goes and how Jailbreak works:
The first €250 raised goes directly to SVP and Amnesty International. After that, half of the money goes towards travel costs for while Jailbreak is on (so 50% travel, 25% SVP and 25% Amnesty International). Those participating in Jailbreak are not permitted to use any other money to spend on these - this is to encourage fundraising. The more money raised means more money to spend on travel and thus more opportunities to complete challenges and earn points.
The run:
Starting under the Campanile in Trinity at 9am, I ran 53km over 8 hours (including breaks for supplies). I saw a lot of the city on the journey. I ran past and through many parks including; St. Audoen's Park, the Phoenix Park, Lansdowne Park, Tymon Park, Marlay Park, Cabinteely Park and Herbert Park. It was as fun as it was challenging (the warm weather did not help) and I am glad to have completed it.
