Mysen: Uber Driver seeking job loss help.

—About Me—

Hello everyone! My name is Mysen, or some of you know me as M1SF0RTUNE on the internet. I’m a long-time gamer, novice writer, dungeon master for Shadowrun, and currently a full-time driver for Uber/Lyft in my beautiful 2025 Jetta, which I work very hard to keep pretty and running well.

Honestly, I’m sad and frustrated at myself to reach this point in my life, but here I am asking for help. Back in February, I had to quit a stable technician job because of a wrist injury and increasing medical expenses, so I decided to use my new Jetta as a means of making money through Uber and Lyft. My priority doing this has been to provide a quality executive-style service through amenities, good conversation, and a comfortable, clean ride, but also to have flexibility to look for a new full-time job.

Unfortunately, 5 months have passed, and I’ve applied to over 300 locations (job boards like Indeed, ZipRecruiter, LinkedIn, and even staffing agencies) to try and utilize my Associate's degree in Software Development and made no progress. I need to make at least $20 an hour to keep up with my monthly bills but also credit debt I’ve slipped into over the last few years.

—My Current Situation—

As of writing this, my car I bought in September ‘24 has already reached 20k miles, and I just hit my second flat tire yesterday working Uber. A flat tire puts me out of work for 1-2 days where I have to get a tire ordered and replaced. And the day I’m writing, I’m two days from my car payment, the dealership is closed tomorrow, I’m $400 short, and that includes a late credit payment.

So… here I am, out of options and with the tax season rapidly approaching, low on time.

I’m sending this out to all my networks, communities, friends, and family asking for help. Any money raised goes directly to my bills, and the more bills I can cover, the less time I risk on the road with Uber and more time to spend on the job search.

—Costs Breakdown—

In the interest of transparency, I need at least $1600 minimum to get through one whole month. Excess money goes to future months or to save for the tax season, and if I can get even more, it’s going directly to education options to help get into a tech career. Maybe not full-on college for my Bachelor’s I originally wanted to pursue, but at least a tech boot camp to get me working ASAP.

I’m struggling to get ahead of my bills enough to put any money away for the eventual tax season (since I pay those at the end of the year for Uber), or any money toward education (such as tech boot camps or certifications to increase my chances of hiring). Bills include 4 credit cards (one is used solely for major car expenses, another is just a balance transfer card to mitigate some of the interest), my car payments, phone bills, insurance for the car, and of course food and rent. That’s to say nothing for mental health medication or therapy costs which are currently low but idk for how long.

That all said, every dollar, every penny helps me tremendously, and I’ll be extremely grateful for any help provided.
