Help Support Jon-Eric Family

Donation protected
My brother-in-law Jon-Eric Jones is a loving husband and father who drives for a company out of Corpus Christi. He has been driving long haul for 9 years and loves it. When he isn't working he is spending time with his stay at home wife Collette and taking care of his 5 children Kayla 28, Taylor 23, Logan 21, Ethan 14, and Zachary 10. He spends every moment of his life caring for and supporting his family. To friends and family Jon is described an entrepreneur in applications, a hunting and camping enthusiast, the world's best handyman, and an all-around good person.

In the later evening hours on March 2nd 2020, Jon-Eric Jones was admitted to Spohn South Hospital in Corpus Christie for what was thought to be a minor infection. Jon was rushed into surgery immediately after tests revealed an overwhelming case of Fournier Gangrene. Fournier gangrene is a type of necrotizing fasciitis or gangrene affecting the external genitalia or perineum. It commonly occurs in older men, but it can also occur in women and children and is most associated with those who have a history of diabetes. Surgeons attempted to prepare Collette advising that they would need to remove all necrotic tissue and muscle before determining the full extent of the damage. Unfortunately they also advised that in his condition he might not make it through surgery.  After four hours in surgery Jon was moved to the ICU but Doctors advised Collette that he was not out of the woods just yet and that the next 48 hours would be critical.

On the 3rd day in ICU we almost lost him due to trouble regulating all bodily functions including, blood pressure, potassium, heart rate, and other things associated with his diabetes and the extensive damage and severity of the surgical procedure.  After 7 days in ICU he was moved to a private room in the hospital for 4 days in attempt to regulate regular bodily functions and initiate wet to dry wound care twice a day.

Jon has been moved to the Long-Term Acute Care (LTAC) in Corpus Christi and is receiving IV antibiotics, wound care, and physical therapy. The wound covers majority of the right inner thigh and groin, expands through the intergluteal cleft, and is about 11 centimeters deep. Recovery and physical therapy are projected to take a minimum of 8-12 weeks and a maximum of up to a year for full function and mobility meaning he will not be working or able to provide for the family. Depending on how much skin begins to grow over the next few weeks will determine how much skin graphing will be required to close the wound.

Due to the severity of the COVID-19 today his family will be unable to see him for at least 60 days or until further notice. Please help to support the Jones family through this difficult time and help raise awareness for Fournier Gangrene and Diabetes.

Take care of yourselves and seek medical assistance for any questionable ailments.
