Trine's Recovery
Donación protegida
Trine, 29 years young, loving wife and mother of two, got the call on her way home from Whistler with her family, that she was to go to the hospital when she arrived home. The results from her CT scan showed a 6 cm brain tumor over the Brain Stem, Cerebellum, and 4th ventricle.
Trine had surgery September 4th that was to take 8 hours, but due to it being more extensive and invasive took 18 hours. In ICU, when the medical team removed the intubation tube, Trine was not able to support her own breathing, therefore having a respiratory code, and re-intubation. Shortly after re-intubation, Trine’s heart stopped. After a minute of CPR, her heart started.
In the four weeks since surgery, there have been other complications, including Parasympathetic storming and ICU delirium, although common with long ICU stays, it has been extremely difficult for Trine and her husband Marcus. Trine had a breathing tube in for 2 weeks, and currently has a tracheostomy and nasogastric tube.
4 weeks after surgery, Trine is now in the ICU Step-Down Unit. For the first time since surgery, with assistance, Trine stood up and took her first few steps. She has not been able to stand up since, but we're hoping it will happen again soon.
The expected outcome for surgery was a one-week hospitalization, and home to recover for 2 months. Four weeks after surgery, the new estimated outcome is, one month in the medical unit to rehab breathing, with or without a tracheostomy, and learning to eat with or without a tracheostomy. Followed by another month in the rehabilitation unit for physical rehabilitation. Long term recovery is estimated at one year.
Support received would go towards expenses to help with childcare while Trine is in the hospital and down the road when Trine is able to come home, as she will not be able to physically care for Zack and Kaia yet. Travel expenses for radiation and exercise equipment for rehabilitation once at home. Marcus will also be on reduced pay for now until his work benefits run out and then be taking unpaid time off after November to support Trine with her recovery. Trine’s parents are away from work and will have to fly back to Denmark soon. We would like to help with some of their travel expenses. Excess funds will be donated back to charity.
We will post updates on Trine’s recovery and want to sincerely thank-you for your well wishes and support!
