You may not know the two boys in the photo - they're ​a part of ​my family. They're my godchildren who I met ten years ago when their mom, dad and I went through an epic battle together​ in the Portland court system​. The​ kids'​ dad died soon after. Their mom is like a sister ​to me ​and I love ​her and her kids​ with everything I've got.

When ​their ​mom called me last night, she could barely utter the words - he​r dad, the boys' grandfather, had​ died on Monday in his car​. She has no money ​for any funeral costs. ​And, ​she has no help. ​

Right now ​her dad is​ in a refrigerator​ at the morgue​. ​

She hadn't shared that he died with me because she didn't want to feel like a burden. You're not a burden, I said. No one is. We're all in this together. We're here to lift each other up.

How much is it? It'll cost $2,500 to give ​the kids'​ grandfather a proper burial, memorial and feed the family ​for a week after.
