The Last Days of Judas Iscariot

THE PLAY

Set in a time-bending, darkly comic world between heaven and hell, THE LAST DAYS OF JUDAS ISCARIOT reexamines the plight and fate of the New Testament’s most infamous and unexplained sinner.

We are coming together to tell the story of Judas because of its enduring relevance. As a society this story can be worth reflecting upon, even today. It is a complex story that has stood the test of time and shaped worldviews. No doubt that Stephen Adly Guirgis wrote an incredibly important play 20 years ago. Our goal is to deliver to our audience a memorable and thought-provoking experience with our production.

Despite its comedic, fantastical, and over-the-top elements, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot delves into very real and heavy crises affecting our society today: depression and suicide. Suicide is the second-leading cause of death among people age 15 to 24 in the United States. Most of us know at least one person in our lives plagued by this epidemic, yet what is even more concerning is that most of us have people in our lives suffering in dark silence. Too many of God’s children are throwing themselves and all their divine gifts into the garbage. Too many of us lack the courage and will to speak up and get help. We are not looking to make profit with this production, we are looking instead to encourage our audiences to have mercy and empathy for one another, as well as faith in ourselves that we can be ok. We are putting on this production because we must have to. Therefore, anything we gain shall be donated to a cause that spreads this message further. Samaritans is a nonprofit organization that provides suicide prevention/awareness education, as well as 24-hour crisis hotlines that are operated by volunteers. Since all proceeds will be going to this cause, by coming to see our play, you are indirectly playing a role in saving innumerable lives.
