The Junkie Garage is a group of friends near Phoenix, Arizona that, a couple of years ago, saw someone post online that they needed help with their A/C in their car: they drove their kids to school in the heat and couldn't afford to fix it.
Temps here get over 120 degrees and when a car sits all day in the sun, temps climb well over 150 degrees. Imagine having to drive around in those temps with your kids in the car and not being able to fix your A/C cause a shop wants to charge you $50+ an hour in labor charges.
We offered to do the labor for free for this person, they just had to bring us the freon/parts. After we fixed the A/C we got an idea: we could do this and so much more for everyone in our community that is struggling! You see where we live on our side of town there is no public transportation. There's no way to just hop on a bus and go to work or get your kids to school so a vehicle is a lifeline for families.
So we decided we were going to turn it into a weekly event. Every week on Friday we get together and just start working on vehicles for struggling familes. We started with A/C but now do all kinds of repairs, from swapping out radiatiors, to changing alternators and starters, we have even replaced bumpers, headlights, tailights, pretty much anything we can to save struggling families from those high priced shops over charging for labor.
Our goal is to raise enough money that these struggling families wont even have to worry about buying the parts. We want to be able to buy the part for them and the fluids to keep them safely on the road. Another goal we have is we want to buy a used vehicle repair it get it running great and give it away to a needy family. We'd eventually like to get a tow truck and a shop that would be happy to assist in getting people to our location or to a shop we can use.
ALL Donations go right back into parts and fluids for struggling families. Everything we receive always goes into helping the next vehicle that pulls into our driveway
We also accept broken down cars as donations that we can repair and donate to families in need. Thank you for your consideration!
