The Marcia Brice Scholarship Fund
Don protégé
Our mom, Marcia Cecilia (Lewis) Brice, was born on November 28, 1949, in Kingston, Jamaica. From early on she was a special person, always looking out for her siblings and trying to make an active contribution to her community. At the age of nine years old, she relocated to Chicago with her family. She graduated from Dunbar High School and attended Kennedy King College (KKC). At KKC, she earned an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education. Mom was one of the first people in her family to earn a college degree.
After obtaining her degree, she worked for Dawson Technical Institute in their daycare program. This program provided daycare services for parents who were attending school at the college. After years at Dawson Tech, she was promoted to a lead teacher role at her alma mater, KKC, where she worked until her retirement. She was a loving and dedicated early childhood educator who ventured to nurture and instill knowledge in every child she taught. Marcia extended her passion for excellence to all of her sons, and love and compassion to everyone around her. She emphasized education in our household and pushed each of us to achieve more. With her support, all four of her children graduated college and a few even went on to obtain Graduate Degrees.
In honor of her legacy, we would like to raise funds to support students who desire to become educators and positively impact the development of young children. Our goal is to raise $35,000 for an endowed scholarship that will fully fund an Associate’s Degree for each selected scholar at Kennedy King College. We are thankful for your support and truly appreciate your contribution to the scholarship fund that has been established in honor of our mother.
