The number one battle for us firefighters? Cancer! My brother Dan Portee  is in his second battle with cancer. He’s started his sessions of chemo therapy and as if it wasn’t enough. He has to battle the high cost of deductibles! The deductible cost for Dan’s treatment has gone through the ceiling.  And we all know why, since they didn’t get it all the first time, the insurance company is going to take more out of us the second time! We are putting this go fund me together to ask for your help and support. Dan’s deductible has gone up to $13,000! Unbelievable! So we are setting a goal for $8000 to keep the treatment going and the stress of finances off of Dan and his wife Renee.  The hardest part is to serve for so many years, give so much of yourself, being exposed  to the chemicals and communicable diseases.  “It’s part of the job”, “comes with the territory”. It’s just so devastating to survive and make it to retirement just to realize that you still did not escape all that you’ve been exposed to!
