What is it to be loved, Flute, I know not.
Not truly, not incomparably,
Not in the way that I watch women float
From door to door from dawn till dusk and wearing
Their adorations as silk gloves and scarves
As if their lover dresses them in sighs
And deeply passionate moans; it disgusts me –
And yet I want it, I want it immensely.
(Mads from The Flute)
The Flute is a play exploring what it is to love and to be loved. It follows the story of Mads, a stubborn, cynical poet, and her relationship with her closest friend - a flute. The character of "Flute" is played by a flautist onstage, but unseen by characters in the world. The play follows their relationship after Mads' sister Marie becomes engaged, leaving Mads seeking to find her own love.
We are committed to paying our collaborative artists fairly, showing appreciation and respect to their hard work and commitment to the story. These funds will cover the costs of hiring a space for rehearsals and performances and to pay the artists union rates. By paying union rates, we are doing our part in creating a more sustainable industry where artists are valued and treated with professional respect.
Thank you so much for your support. This project has been in our heads and hearts for over four years, and we are so excited to be able to share it with all of you soon.
