5 years ago Sarah was diagnosed with breast cancer. Together with her husband Brad, she beat it and entered remission. Since then Sarah has worked at UNI as a professor and they have started a family, first welcoming a son and then, very recently, a newborn daughter!
The celebration of her latest pregnancy was unfortunately cut short; Sarah was diagnosed with a brain tumor and stage 4 breast cancer while she was 30 weeks pregnant with a tumor to her brain, lung, and chest lymph node. She gave birth to a healthy baby but had to undergo surgery a few days later to have the brain tumor removed. She will soon begin chemotherapy treatments at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.
Sarah and Brad face a difficult road ahead. They are unsure of the amount Sarah will be able to continue working during treatment. Brad has a wonderful career but their family will have many financial hurdles to overcome. Sarah has already had multiple doctor visits, a surgery and given birth; the bills are adding up before the treatment has even begun.
Any funds donated will go directly to Brad and Sarah to help them cover the cost of medical treatments, medicines, daycare and living expenses.
Thankfully they do have insurance but as we all know, insurance doesn't cover the full cost of any treatment. The less they have to worry about paying those bills the more they can focus on their family and getting Sarah healthy again
