Thank you for saving our miracle baby ❤️

Hey. My name is Nicky. I am mum to an amazing daughter who didn't have the easiest start in life. On the morning of the 25th October 2012 I developed an infection inside of my womb. Unfortunately this meant a lengthy hospital stay. I was given steroid injections to help develop Sophies lungs as a precaution if she came early. Not for one minute did we think on my birthday the very next day our little baby wanted to wish mummy a happy birthday in person. Sophie was born at 26+4 days. Weighing .725kg. 1lb7. Sophie was born into a clear bag due to her skin not developing. We later found that Sophie was resuscitated twice. Daddy was able to go and see her after they had settled her. Sophie despite the fears that every hour would be her last fought on through. I got discharged from hospital. On the 5th day which was Halloween we got the dreaded phone call. Sophie has developed a condition called Necrotizing Enterocolitis. This is a perforated bowel. We was told she had a 5% chance of survival and to call our family to come say out goodbyes. When we arrived we was greeted with around 10 doctors working on saving her. Sophie urgently needed a blood transfusion. They hooked me up and I gave her blood directly. An ambulance then arrived equipped with an intensive care incubator and specialised doctors. We was then taken to Leicester hospital. Sophie thankfully went straight down for surgery and was left with a stoma bag and 60% of her bowel/intestines. At 3 months old we was eventually discharged. We knew it wasn't over as she needed the stoma reversing when she weighed enough. 2 weeks after being at home Sophie had a prolapse. Her intestines came out through the stoma. We headed back to Leicster in the ambulance for another surgery. THANKFULLY the stoma was reversed and Sophie recovered amazingly. 10 years on and looking back we realise how lucky we are to have Sophie here with us today. For her 10th birthday we would like to raise some money for the NICU at Peterborough and also Leicester. To help support families that are in our situation. For help towards equipment. Just a little token for saving our beautiful girl and now that Sophie is old enough to understand how lucky she is. ❤️
