In Loving Memory of Tenaira Layton

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Tenaira Layton, a brilliant, funny, fiercely honest, and beautifully creative soul. To know Tenaira was to love her, and to be loved by her was a rare gift. She kept her circle close, and those fortunate enough to be part of it were forever changed by her warmth, wit, and sincerity.

I met Tenaira in college, and from the moment our paths crossed, she became family. A sister in every sense. She had an unmatched way of making people feel seen and reminded us that honesty, even when it stung, was a form of love.

After bravely overcoming her first and second battle with cancer, Tenaira chose to turn her experience into purpose. During her recovery, she began writing and speaking about her journey to give strength to others facing the same fight. She wanted people to feel less alone. She wanted her story to bring light where there was darkness. And she did, over and over again.

This year, her cancer returned unexpectedly and with devastating force. Despite every effort, she was unable to overcome it a second time. Her passing has left her family and friends heartbroken, yet deeply grateful for the love, laughter, and truth she gave so freely.

As her loved ones navigate the pain of this loss, we are coming together to honor Tenaira’s memory and ensure she is laid to rest with the dignity and love she deserves. Contributions will go toward her memorial and final arrangements, allowing her family the space to grieve and celebrate her life without added hardship.
