Temporary Helping a Single Mother with her Bills

After much effort, I have gathered the courage to step out of my comfort zone and reach out for your assistance. I am an immigrant single mom of 3 kids. Despite the financial and emotional challenges, I have worked hard and received my Ph.D. I got hired as a researcher and moved with my kids to another state to start a new chapter in our lives. My full-time position ended on July 31st. I have been looking and applying for jobs since last October but unfortunately have had no luck. I picked up a side job in a retail store over the weekend to help with the increased expenses. Nevertheless, I need to mention that I have not received any child support money from the other parent for the past 4 years (despite a case with the Child Support Office). Also, I don’t qualify for government assistance programs due to my current immigration status. I was fortunate to get a temporary part-time adjunct teaching position (which ends by the end of December 2023) in addition to the side job in the retail store. At this point, I am working 7 days/a week but barely covering our expenses, not having enough time dedicated to searching and applying for more jobs and most importantly being there to take care of my kids. I am asking kindly for your help to cover the rest of my expenses till I get a full-time job.

My current income from both part-time jobs is $2500 while my fixed expenses(rent, car payment, utilities, gas, and food in addition to credit card minimum payments) are $ 4400/month. I am kindly asking for your temporary support for the next 3 months ( or until I get a full-time job, whatever is earlier) by helping with sharing my story with your connections, sharing job opportunities, praying, and donating to supplement the rest of my family’s expenses which is about $2000/month for the next 3 months.

Additionally, I would truly appreciate any referrals for job opportunities ( remotely at this point since it will be hard to move the kids in the middle of the school year). I have been engaged in research on digital health with several peer-reviewed publications. My expertise lies in analyzing social media data, which includes applying network analysis, content analysis techniques, and statistical analysis. I am well-suited for positions in public health informatics, health education and promotion, and health communication. Moreover, I have extensive teaching experience and grant writing experience among others.

Note Sep 2023: The current fund goal is $6500 which includes an additional $500 to cover the fees deducted by the GoFundMe website for each transaction.

Update 22 Dec 2023: I have finally secured a full-time job starting May 1st, 2024. In the meantime for the next 4 months (Jan-April), I will start a contract job and another possibly part-time teaching job in mid-January. I want to thank everyone who helped by prayers, sharing opportunities, and donations. Over the past 3 months, your help provided time, energy, and peace of mind to search for jobs that had positive results. Since the paycheck for the new (part-time) job will be available by the end of January. I am a bit hesitant to ask again, but I need a little help till the full-time job starts in May. I will update you month by month depending on the income from the part-time job(s).

Till the end of Dec, I have received $6950 after deducting the fees for the GoFundMe website. We have updated the goal to $9500 to cover the expenses for January and the additional fees to be deducted.

Update 11 Jan 2024: Thanks to all of you for your donations, we have January expenses covered and majority of February expenses. I can't thank you enough for the peace you have given me and all your support.
