My father in law Mike Martinez is going through a very rough medical patch right now. This was completely unexpected as Mike has NEVER been in the hospital in the almost 5 years I’ve known him. My in laws are here from Kansas and everyone else is traveling back and forth between the hospital and Kimball, NE. Below is from my mother in law, Christy Martinez:

“We never thought we would have to ask for

help but here we are. Mike has been in

Poudre Valley hospital in Fort Collins,CO

since last Friday. He went to the ER in

Sidney and he was transported via

ambulance to Poudre Valley on Friday. He

has pneumonia with his right lobe being

completely affected. He has what are

called loculated empyemas, three of them.

Using regular antibiotics do not work for

this. He has already had to endure a chest

tube which was unsuccessful. On Monday

8/25 he will have surgery to remove these

three areas . He will b e here until at least

Thursday. Not to mention the aftercare

aspect. I have no idea what that will even

entail.

Update. Mike didn't make it to

surgery today. They tried to place

breathing tube and couldn't due to his

airway being too swollen. By the time they

got it in he was too unstable to go any

further. They intubated him and placed him

on sedation and he is now in the ICU. We

don't know the next steps. His body is

tired. We need all of the help we can get

right now.

The cost of getting out here to him, staying

here, and being here until he can go home

is adding up. Adding up to way more than

we can afford. I just started a new job in

June so l do not have any PTO to use for

this time away, therefore resulting in even

more money loss.

We can't even begin to imagine what all of

this is going to cost. But if there is any way

you can help we would be eternally
