I am Eugenia Triantafyllou, a Greek writer of speculative fiction. My writing has appeared in venues such as Apex Magazine (Cherry Wood Coffin), Strange Horizons (We Are Here to Be Held) and Liminal Stories (The Heart is a Lonesome Hunter).
I have been invited to attend the six-week long Clarion West Writer's Workshop. Clarion West is a prestigious and career-building workshop taught by some of the leading voices of speculative fiction, located in Seattle, Washington. It is extremely difficult to get accepted by this workshop and only 18 students from around the world get invited every year. I would really appreciate it if you helped me take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Why is Clarion West so important to me?
First of all writing is my dream and I want to follow this career as far as it can go. Currently I am working on a novella and with the tools I acquire by attending this workshop I will be able to move on to writing novels as well as well as hone my short craft.
English is my second language. I would like to give voice to stories that are rooted in Greek culture and history and bring them to English-speaking readers.
How will I use this money?
While attending Clarion West costs a significant amount of money, I was fortunate enough to cover a large part of those expenses due to a generous donation. This is the amount that remains.
Airfare to Seattle, Passport, etc: $1500
Various expenses/emergencies: $500. This is to cover any necessary expenses that might arise while I am at Clarion West.
Laptop to write with at Clarion: $500
$2500 ≃ 25 000SEK
I am currently unemployed and cannot afford to cover these costs so I’m counting on the support of the community to be able to attend. I understand it is a lot of money to raise and the workshop begins on June 23rd, so I have a limited amount of time to raise this sum.
