Donations and Applications have been turned off. 
On Thursday, April 19, educators across Arizona voted to walk out of their schools April 27-28th to pressure state leaders to act on demands for more education funding, made by grass-roots organization, Arizona Educators United, also known by #RedForEd.
Today, April 23rd, the administration of Sahuarita Unified School District made the decision to close our schools on those days, for the safety of our children. While Certified Staff, such as teachers, will be paid (they will make up the lost time at a later date), Classified or Hourly Staff will lose their wages for the duration of the walk-out. We are aware that losing a day's wage can be devastating to the hard-working support staff that make the day to day education of our children possible.
Therefore, we are setting up this fund to assist those in need. Applications for assistance will be made available to all verified Classified Staff through this page beginning Thursday, April 26. This committee of community members will review applications and disperse funds through the duration of the walk out.
As community members, we are so proud of our brave educators who are fighting for the education system in Arizona, and for our children. We don't want anyone to fall through the cracks during this fight. Anything you can do to help will mean so much not just to our wonderful support staff and their families, who are our neighbors and students in our district, but to ALL the children of Arizona.

Update 4/26/2018... My apologies, the committee is still working through the application process and method to disperse funds. The application should be on-line soon, but expect it no later than Monday, 4/30/2018. Thank you for your patience and donations.
Update 5/3/2018... I want to personally THANK YOU for your donations to the outstanding support staff from Sahuarita Unified School District. My name is Chris Nastase and I'm from Sahuarita, Arizona. I am one of three on a committee to help process applications from the hourly staff that were out of work for four days from Sahuarita Unified School District. The committee has no personal relationships to the staff members requesting assistance. To date, we have received 51 applications from staff members requesting assistance. Applications are processed using a weighted system based on information provided in the application. We have sent out e-mails to staff members of approved applications to establish pick up dates, times and locations. The staff members are presenting their school ID for verification at the time they pick-up funds as well as signing a numbered receipt for the amount received. Currently, 20 of 51 total applications submitted have been processed and funds distributed. No applications have been denied to date and amounts paid out, range from $50 to $200 per applicant. Total paid out to date is $2,600, which averages $138 per applicant. All incoming funds from this gofundme page, as well as funds paid out are logged on a spreadsheet for auditing purposes.
Update 5/10/2018... WOW what an awesome community!!! I'm closing donations at this time. There were more than 88 people that donated generously to raise $8,345 on this campaign. This allowed us to help 68 of the 72 requesting assistance. Many of the staff would like to pass on their THANK YOUs!!!
