Medical Expenses

I am a single mom who has been in the hospital for almost two weeks. October 13 I went in for a normal surgery to have my lumbar shunt redone. After just a few days I was in so much pain. After visiting two local hospitals I reluctantly was transferred to University of Chicago.

They found out I had a massive staff infection in the tubing in my stomach and had to get it out quickly. The next day they did a small surgery to pull the tube out and put in a drain. My dr saw the drain and how much was coming out and decided that I needed a complete shunt extraction. That everything had to come out.

So after being in the hospital from Oct 30 Tuesday November 3 I went in for surgery to have everything removed. I have a pic line in once I go home so I can continue getting antibiotics but it will still be a few days until I'm allowed to go home.

Throughout this process I have gone through every dime I have had saved up. Between driving to Chicago, medications the insurance won't pay for, the bandages I will need for the pic line, then also the care for my 5 year old son who my wonderful parents have been watching. However he has been put in daycare some to give her a break since she is supposed to go in for surgery on her neck November 20. It's very tolling on her to keep him. So his day care goes any where from $7-$24 a day for daycare depending on how long she leaves him there.

Now once the infection is gone and cleared from my body I have to wait 6 weeks then I will need to go back in for another surgery to have the entire shunt replaced which will be about another 5-6 days in the hospital. Until they can replace the shunt they are putting me on medication to try and control the amount of spinal fluid that is building up and one to help try and control the migraines that I will experience until the new shunt can be replaced.

My father also took off a day of work to be with me the day after surgery which I am so thankful he did be I had to be completely flat on my back for about 36 hours until I could start sitting up 10 degrees at a time every hour. So he missed out on a whole day of work.

There are so many expenses that we have had to go through and I really wish the burden of having to pay for everything wasn't on my shoulders. So please if there is anything you can do to help i would appreciate it. Even $2 would help. Please I'm not one to ask for help but I really need anything I can get at this point and I'm putting my pride behind me for the sake of my son and I.

Thank You,
Ashley
